A Closer Look at Summit’s Parent Program

Summit Achievement’s Parent Program

Parenting is an ongoing journey filled with challenges, triumphs, and everything in between. When a child faces difficulties, whether academically, socially, or emotionally, it can be overwhelming for both the child and their caregivers. This overwhelm has often reached a crescendo when a young person enrolls in a therapeutic program. Parents and caregivers are often left feeling guilty and defeated. Summit Achievement understands this dynamic well and offers a comprehensive Parent Program designed to support families through the ups and downs of their child’s journey.

Understanding Summit Achievement: Summit Achievement is a renowned therapeutic program and accredited school that specializes in helping struggling adolescents overcome challenges and develop essential life skills. Located in the beautiful White Mountains of Maine, Summit Achievement provides a therapeutic adventure therapy experience coupled with individualized clinical treatment to foster growth and positive change.

However, Summit Achievement recognizes that the journey towards healing and growth doesn’t end with the child’s participation in the therapeutic program. Family involvement and support are integral components of long-term success. That’s where the Parent Program comes into play.

Key Components of Summit Achievement’s Parent Program:

  1. Individualized Parent Coaching: Parents/guardians will be offered six sessions of parent coaching with Nick Faraldi, MSW, Summit’s Director of Parent Support.  Sessions are designed to reflect on parenting patterns and develop skills to help parents/guardians plan for visits and the child’s return home after treatment.
  1. Education and Guidance: The Parent Program begins with education and guidance for parents and caregivers. The specialized curriculum was developed specifically for those with children going through Summit programs (either Achievement or Traverse – our short-term therapeutic boarding school). In addition to the curriculum, coaching, and therapy sessions, there are monthly psychoeducational workshops and support groups for parents to attend.
  2. Individualized Therapeutic Support: Just as the students receive individualized therapeutic support during their time at Summit Achievement, parents also have access to therapeutic guidance. Licensed therapists work closely with families to address any concerns, explore family dynamics, and strengthen relationships.
  3. Ongoing Communication: Communication is key to fostering understanding and connection within families. Summit Achievement encourages open and honest communication between parents, their child, and the clinical team. Regular updates, phone calls, and family therapy sessions ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards common goals.
  4. Transition Planning: Transitioning back home after treatment can be challenging for both the child and their family. Summit Achievement’s Parent Program helps families navigate this transition period by providing support and guidance every step of the way. From creating a transition plan to accessing resources in the local community, families are equipped with the tools they need for continued success.

Benefits of Summit Achievement’s Parent Program:

  1. Strengthened Family Relationships: By participating in the Parent Program, families can strengthen their relationships and deepen their understanding of one another. Improved communication and conflict resolution skills pave the way for healthier dynamics at home.
  2. Continued Support: The journey towards healing and growth is ongoing. Summit Achievement’s Parent Program offers continued support and guidance even after their child has graduated in the form of webinars and support groups. Families know that they are not alone and can rely on the support of the Summit community whenever needed.
  3. Empowerment and Resilience: Through education, therapy, and support, parents and caregivers develop a greater sense of empowerment and resilience. They learn how to navigate challenges effectively, advocate for their child, and create a supportive environment for long-term success.

Summit Achievement’s Parent Program is more than just a support system for families; it’s a lifeline during times of struggle and a beacon of hope for the future. By investing in the well-being of the entire family, Summit Achievement ensures that every member receives the support they need to thrive. With guidance, education, and therapeutic support, families can navigate the complexities of having an adolescent in treatment with confidence and resilience.
