How long have you been working at Summit? What is your current role?

I’ve been working as a field guide here at Summit since mid October ‘22 and I am currently one of our team leaders!

Tell us about yourself! What about your life/background drew you to working at Summit?

I was first introduced to the mental health sphere by my dad, who is a counselor. From a young age I’ve been fascinated and intrigued by people and how their brains work. I grew up going to an experiential education school which was student centered and focused on not just academics, but also on relational skills such as collaboration, conflict resolution, reflection, & problem solving. At this school I developed lifelong skills that I utilize every day to create a life that is meaningful to me. This led me to majoring in psychology and after graduating, I worked as a mental health case manager for adults. When it comes to the wilderness aspect- I grew up outside. In the months before working here, I hiked the Appalachian Trail northbound. The woods have taught me a lot about myself.

What is your favorite thing about working at Summit?

My favorite part has to be the connections I make with all the students. What’s particularly impactful for me is getting to be a part of their process in identifying who they desire to become. It’s always a privilege to get to be there for someone’s vulnerable & meaningful moments. I love the amount of collaboration between the whole care team here at Summit, and of course getting to work outside!

What is one thing you wish you could tell students who are thinking about enrolling at Summit?

To anyone considering Summit, know that this is a community that is accepting and encouraging of all. What we ask of students is not easy; it is challenging by design. This program will push you to work through your struggles and challenge your negative patterns. But all of this will be done with immense amounts of support and resources… All guides and staff alike are here to foster a safe space for individuals to be vulnerable & sort through issues that are negatively impacting their lives. I want students to know that we’re on their team and have their best interests at heart.

What do you like to do on your off shift?

I like to do a lot of things! Definitely spending time with friends & family is high up on my list. Lately I’ve been enjoying going to concerts & swimming. One of my biggest passions is cooking –  I spend a lot of my off shift eating and making delicious food. I also love to sing and have been trying to get back into playing guitar.
