Emma Bennett

BA, Field Director

Emma was born and raised in Maine. She spent her childhood in the small/rural town of Acton, close to the mountains and lakes as well as the ocean! Emma attended a K-8 experiential education school. There, she spent a lot of time learning outdoors and through that process she gained a love for nature and all that it has to offer. This school focused on the whole person- not just academics- which meant that from a young age she was developing skills like problem solving, conflict resolution, and collaboration. Emma attended college here in Maine and majored in Psychology with a certification that allowed her to work as a Case Manager. After graduating she worked with low income adults struggling with severe mental illness.

Emma has always been drawn to learning about people and about how their experiences shape them into who they are. After Case Management she decided to hike the Appalachian trail northbound and after returning home, it was clear she wanted to pursue a career that revolved around helping people while being outdoors. She began guiding at Summit in October of 2022, and since then has been amazed at the growth and change she has seen in the young people that come through our programs. Their bravery and vulnerability is truly remarkable.

In April of 2023, Emma began Team Leading– a position held for our senior and experienced staff. In Summer 2024, Emma accepted the position of Field Director. She enjoys being a mentor and thrives as a leader in the Summit Community.

When she is not at Summit Emma is most likely spending time with close friends and family. She enjoys cooking and baking (sourdough mostly), playing guitar, canoeing/kayaking, and singing. Emma also has recently started building a sauna on wheels!
